Inaugural Fall Black Convocation

We are so excited for the Inaugural Fall Black Convocation taking place at UC Riverside on October 22, 2026! This is an annual fall gathering and community building event for UCR faculty, staff, students and community at large to celebrate Black scholarship and community at UCR. This event hopes to become an ongoing mentorship space that connects new students with current students, helpful administrators, and other relevant resources on our UCR campus and within the larger community.

The UCR Black Thriving Initiative (BTI) has been planning the event in partnership with African Student Programs (ASP), the Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFASA), and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The entire UCR community – including all students, faculty, staff, and affiliate community groups – is invited to join us as we gather to celebrate, connect, and build community.

DATE: October 22, 2026
LOCATION: HUB 302 North
TIME: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Community Call for UCR 2026 Black Convocation Nominees

As part of UC Riverside's inaugural Black Convocation on October 22, 2026, we are creating a community slideshow to introduce and celebrate the people who make our campus and surrounding community such a vibrant place to learn, work, and grow.

We invite you to submit information about yourself or nominate someone else whose work, leadership, service, creativity, mentorship, or advocacy helps strengthen the Black community at UCR and beyond. Our goal is to help incoming students and new members of the UCR community become familiar with the many individuals, organizations, and initiatives that contribute to a strong sense of belonging.

Whether someone is making an impact through research, teaching, student support, community engagement, the arts, professional work, or everyday acts of care and leadership, we'd love to help share their story. Together, we're building a community where new Highlanders can see the many people and pathways that make UCR a place to connect, belong, and thrive.

We will also ask for a high resolution photo, so please have that ready!
